A Future Battle And The First Time I Met With Paul Heyman

With the news of Paul Heyman being inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame, as a part of the festivities leading up to WrestleMania 40 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, I thought I'd share this photo and some memories of the first time I met with Paul Heyman (back when he was the heel or "bad guy" wrestling manager Paul E. Dangerously) and his involvement with a certain small independent wrestling group that even some hardcore wrestling fans may not know that he was a part of.

This photo was taken in a locker room at Marengo High School, in the tiny town of Marengo, Illinois, when Paul was brought in to manage The Terminators (Riggs & Wolf) at an event presented by a new promotion called Windy City Wrestling, promoted by Sam Decero (who formerly wrestled as Super Maxx, one half of the Maxx Brothers tag team with Mad Maxx, aka Eli The Eliminator). At the time, Windy City's events coordinator was the late Alan Eppenstein (I also knew Alan when he promoted some spot shows for Verne Gagne's AWA during its final years) and Sonny Rogers was the first trainer for Windy City's wrestling school. Along with managing wrestlers at ringside for Windy City events (The Terminators and Dennis Condrey & Randy Rose, aka The Original Midnight Express), Paul was also brought in to be a behind-the-scenes influence for Windy City Wrestling. Long-time Chicagoland audio-video producer Bob Carzoli told me that "Paul E." was working with him on video production tapes of Windy City Wrestling, to get them on TV stations (Windy City Wrestling eventually wound up with a 30-minute show on SportsChannel Chicago, and also had a little run on WGBO TV Channel 66/Joliet-Chicago).

When meeting with Paul for the first time in this Marengo High locker room, I brought a tape recorder to have Paul do a radio interview and cut promos for my radio gig at that time, which was on a little now-defunct radio station called WFXW AM 1480 in Geneva, Illinois, which, decades later, along with doing TV & video hosting for pro wrestling (which is still what I'm best known for around the globe), led me to my current full-time KWVE/"K-WAVE" radio job on the legendary 50,000-watt AM 1110 in Los Angeles, along with 107.9 FM (I thank God that I'm a part of this Los Angeles powerhouse reaching such an immense mission field, but the Bible also says "do not despise these small beginnings").

By the way, Marengo, Illinois is named after the Battle Of Marengo, a battle that took place in the year 1800 involving a little commander and tactician who became obese in later years (Napoleon, not Paul Heyman). Battles come and go, and some are obscure or long forgotten, but there is a future battle in this world that must take place, with its outcome already guaranteed (to quoteth Paul Heyman, "that's not just a prediction, that's a spoiler"), and that is recorded for the entire world to know about and chew on (according to God's Word, involving God Himself doing the battling)...the battle known as the Battle Of Armageddon. This future battle will actually originate from Har-Magedon, aka an awesome area that my wife April & I have enjoyed viewing via Israel tours called Megiddo, where many battles throughout history have taken place (April & I proclaim that the Biblical land of Israel is our favorite place in the world, and it is Yahweh's favorite, too). This is the future battle where "spirits of demons, performing signs...go out to the kings of the whole inhabited earth, to gather them together for the war of that great day of God, the Almighty" (Revelation 16:14). To put it in pro wrestling lingo, this future battle in Israel will make these kings of the earth look like jobbers who can't work and Almighty Yeshua Himself will single-handedly make this the most one-sided squash match on this earth, with the best finish in history.

If you don't really understand what I'm talking about right now, that's OK...just simply look up and cry out to God and ask for wisdom to understand who He is, and how to be a part of His eternal plan (in a relationship with Him) and His ways which will stand forever. The Bible says "if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him" (James 1:5). The reverent fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10), and He will make the wise even wiser (even more wise than WWE's "Wise Man" whose "NAME IS PAUL HEYMAN").
