I Gave Notice To KWVE...John & April's Retirement Adventure Starting In June!

This photo featuring me & my wife April was taken during the Celebrity VIP Breakfast at the 65th annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival (slight correction for some good folks who thought I was our parade's Grand Marshal...even though I was chosen as one of the celebrities for the parade and other Strawberry Festival events, our parade's Grand Marshal was actress Kate Linder from the CBS-TV soap opera "The Young And The Restless").

After fifteen glorious years as an on-air radio personality at KWVE/"K-WAVE" FM 107.9 & AM 1110/Los Angeles, owned by and on the campus of the megachurch Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, I will be retiring in June (my final day will be Friday, June 12, 2026). This week, via email, I gave my official retirement notice to KWVE Program Director Brian Perez (who is also the host of our live call-in radio program "Pastors Perspective") and KWVE general manager Colin McLean (who is also the Executive Director of Gatherings on the Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa church campus).

I am giving the KWVE management team plenty of notice, not only to give them time to find the best all-around talent, but also because I know from my own experience that the hiring/screening process is a long one on the Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa church campus/Calvary Chapel Schools preschool through high school campus, which includes the process of fingerprint background checks. Back in 2014, there was one individual who was in the process of getting work at KWVE, but when it came time to take his fingerprints, he was never heard from again.

Without a doubt, Los Angeles, California has been the greatest for my entertainment/broadcasting/professional wrestling career (and I'm thankful for folks around the globe who have followed my career), but once I finish at KWVE and once April finishes her long-time special education job during the same week in June, April & I will be moving to a different part of the country, into a home that I bought upfront in cash three years ago (thank God for guiding and providing), where we will live in our retirement years (God led us to a good spiritual home there before He provided a residential home...I should have more time to talk about all this down the road, after April & I drive on the road to our new home state and into our next chapter).

In the meantime, I don't know what decisions the KWVE/Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa team will make after I gave my retirement notice. As a fun side note, a few months back, I brought up in a KWVE email how two of my K-WAVE colleagues (Katy Manor and Lynn Hackman) and I all worked in the past at different places with L.A. radio/TV personality Jim "The Poorman" Trenton and how the three of us are turning K-WAVE into Da Poor House, with Brian Perez replying, "Especially with the exorbitant salaries we're paying the three of you!!" Again, I don't know what will take place at KWVE after I retire, but feel free to contact them if you have a desire to fill some shoes in Christian broadcasting, on the campus where the great Calvary Chapel founder Pastor Chuck Smith walked, "sharing life, delivering truth, giving hope"!
