Memories Of UWA In Da House (As I Wait To Dwell In The House Of God Forever)!

Among my experiences in the world of professional wrestling, I have fond memories working as the on-camera host & play-by-play announcer for the Urban Wrestling Alliance, which was syndicated on UPN TV stations around the country (particularly in major markets where urban/hip hop music & culture are popular).

It was quite an experience working for the UWA, doing television tapings in front of audiences, in-studio interviews and post-production work at various studios and arenas. For some of our UWA TV episodes, what a joy it was especially when I got to call the action at ringside at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles. When I grew up in Illinois, the two major wrestling promotions I grew up watching (on TV and at local venues) were run by Verne Gagne and Dick The Bruiser, but I also watched another TV wrestling program on one of the old UHF channels, listed in our local TV guide every week as "Lucha Libre", but which was actually the Los Angeles-based wrestling promotion run by the LeBell family, via the Spanish International Network, featuring matches every week from the Grand Olympic Auditorium. It was on this "Lucha Libre" TV program where I first saw this young skinny kid wearing a kilt and playing bagpipes named Roddy Piper. What an honor it was when I got to do wrestling announcing in downtown Los Angeles at this same historic arena.

The photo above features me at a UWA TV taping with Orlando Jordan, who wrestled then as part of a tag team with Marcus Nel-Jamal Hamm called The Black Legion. Orlando went on to become John Bradshaw Layfield's "Chief Of Staff" on "WWE Smackdown". Speaking of chiefs of staff and this world's government system...as I write this, many folks are still talking about the mid-term elections, and they are already talking daily about a certain election that won't take place until two years from now. To echo the words of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, thank the Lord that my kingdom is not of this world (John 18:36). As a believer in Christ, I look forward to that day when Yeshua/Jesus will return and rule and reign over all nations from Jerusalem (Zechariah 14, Acts 1:11), and when the government will be on His shoulders (Isaiah 9:6). With Christ in charge over the whole world, thank God that we won't have to elect a different god every two years or four years (praise the Lord)!
