John & April's Excellent Adventure in Amman, Capital Of The Biblical Land Of Jordan
Thank God that my wife April & I have enjoyed exciting adventures in the Biblical land of Jordan...Israel's next door neighbor has been called "the other Holy Land" (where our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ walked). The photo above shows us in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, in the land of the ancient Ammonites in the Bible.
Amman's modern city life is quite different from life in the vast desert areas of southern Jordan (I plan to write more on that part of Jordan in a future post), but Amman still displays treasures of antiquity. While in Amman, it was interesting to see the Citadel and the Temple of Hercules (not the pro wrestler Hercules Hernandez), and April & I enjoyed a delicious meal at Amman's very own Quick Meal Broasted Chicken, the first fast food restaurant in Amman, Jordan.
Since I've worked as a pro wrestling announcer (and I am a connoisseur of old school pro wrestling), it's interesting to note that during the early 1980s, the Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada-based group called All-Star Wrestling, led by wrestler/promoter Al Tomko, presented some of their pro wrestling matches in Amman. Among the old school wrestlers on this Middle East tour were Al Tomko, Diamond Timothy Flowers, Moondog Moretti, Rick Patterson and Mike Dupree. While April & I were in Amman, we actually walked up and down the stairs of the Roman Theatre (under the hot sun when no event was taking place, overlooking lots of housing units in downtown Amman) where Tomko's pro wrestling took place (along with many other events, going back more than a thousand years).
As recorded in some of the Old Testament books of the Bible, the ancient Ammonites did not get along very well with the Israelites, but it should be noted that an Ammonitess named Naamah was a wife of Solomon and the mother of Rehoboam, who are both included in the earthly genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, in Matthew 1. This reveals that God does indeed make all things work together for good, for those who love God and who have been called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). This genealogy involves humans born with a sin nature (just like you and me), people from different social backgrounds and different parts of the world, both Jews and Gentiles, who were all used by God to bring Yeshua/Jesus, God in human form, to this world that He created, to save the world through Him (John 3:17). Seek the Lord while He may be found, seek Him while He is near (Isaiah 55:6)!
