My Retirement Ceremony & Luncheon After 15 Glorious Years On-Air at KWVE/"K-WAVE"

This photo features me & my beautiful wife April, at my retirement ceremony & luncheon (held earlier today, June 22, 2026), at the K-WAVE Building, on the campus of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, honoring my fifteen years as an on-air radio personality at KWVE/"K-WAVE" Christian Radio, 107.9 & 1110/Los Angeles.

If I had to make a pro wrestling comparison (since most folks around the globe know me as a professional wrestling announcer), I can't help but think about the send-off ceremony for Ric Flair, on a Monday night back on March 31, 2008, the night after his "retirement match", featuring the Nature Boy giving a farewell speech and various colleagues paying tribute.

The Bible says "Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth" (Proverbs 27:2). At my retirement ceremony, there were many kind words spoken by past and more recent colleagues of mine (in-person and via recorded messages), and I received a Certificate of Appreciation signed by Pastor Brian Brodersen (Pastor Emeritus of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and the son-in-law of the late, great Calvary Chapel founder Pastor Chuck Smith). By the way, I also got some nice, gracious gifts that I wasn't expecting.

I also received a warm, handwritten letter, to me & April, from Katy Manor, who was a 1980s rock jockette on KROQ/Los Angeles, and who is now a K-WAVE on-air personality and the hostess of a Christian podcast/radio program called "He Speaks With Kate". Within this letter, among so many other encouraging statements, Katy said that I "will be missed by so many K-WAVE listeners & staff. Why? You & April represented K-WAVE so well at events. You both shined the love of Christ. Joy oozed out through your smiles, eyes and actions...Your professionalism on & off the air is unmatched...John, I hear God say, 'your speaking days are NOT over'. He has given you the gift, experience & personality--He will open doors no men can shut."

Well, as I always say, as April & I make our plans, may the Lord guide our steps (Proverbs 16:9), and in these evil days, I will make the best use of the time (Ephesians 5:16), as April & I enjoyment retirement and start a new beginning, as we wait for the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who will begin a truly new beginning (Revelation 21-22)!
