What Language Will We Speak In Heaven (And More Of My Wrestling Career Memories)?!
The photo above features me backstage with another one of my old colleagues from my professional wrestling announcing career--Brent Albright. During his pro wrestling career, along with his own name, Brent worked under different names (as people do in other forms of show business), including the names Vinnie Valentino (not to be confused with the 1980s wrestler), Slater Vain, Smoke, and Gunner Scott. No matter what name you call him, Brent Albright was a good in-ring talent and is a good guy overall.
Brent has spent much of his life in the state of Oklahoma (Brent started out with a small independent group called Oklahoma Pro Wrestling, and for several years now, he has been working as an aircraft fueler in Tulsa, Oklahoma). Once when I mentioned the town of Miami, Oklahoma to him, Brent informed me that the correct pronunciation of this Oklahoma town is "My-am-uh" (not "My-am-me", as in Florida or Vice). While vacationing in Missouri, my wife April & I learned that Missouri residents pronounce their state as "Miz-zourah" (not "Miz-zouree").
With these variations of words spoken by Americans in America, it made me think of a certain question that has been asked by radio listeners who have called my current Christian broadcasting workplace KWVE..."What language will we speak in heaven?"
The best way to learn about heaven is to go directly to the book that is breathed by God, the Maker of heaven and earth (Genesis 1:1, Psalm 146:6). According to 2 Corinthians 12:4, the Lord gave the apostle Paul a vision of heaven, in which Paul says that when he was caught up into paradise, he heard words that were inexpressible, that no human is permitted to tell. Interesting that within his God-given vision of heaven, Paul did not even mention anything that he saw or that his eyes could see. I'm guessing that it would be like asking a fish in the ocean to describe the sky...to quoteth the title of a Chris Tomlin song, "Indescribable".
So what did Paul actually hear in heaven with his own ears? Well, he couldn't tell us, or God wouldn't allow him to. I have read a few books by different authors who have described their near-death experiences and what they claimed to have experienced during their very brief times in heaven, but since God's chosen messenger Paul, who talked back and forth directly with our Lord Jesus Himself (Acts 9), could not describe any words he heard himself and said that humans are not authorized to speak them, I just want to stick with what the authoritative Word of God clearly states (over what well-meaning humans say about heaven which may not absolutely provide the clearest perception).
I will say these things, though, that are according to God's authoritative Word...as followers of Christ Jesus, we are being transformed, from glory to glory, becoming more and more like Him (2 Corinthians 3:18), and when our Lord and Savior Yeshua/Jesus reappears in the future, we shall be like Him and we shall see Him as He really is (1 John 3:2). Above any temporary life situations or news headlines, that is something to look forward to for all eternity!
